The interactive whiteboard! IWB! You say what?
I have never heard about an interactive whiteboard until I've become a PGCE student and I have to say that I am extreamly excited about this new concept.
What is an Interactive Whiteboard?
An interactive whiteboard is an instructional tool that allows computer images to be displayed onto a board using a digital projector. The instructor can then manipulate the elements on the board by using his finger as a mouse, directly on the screen. Items can be dragged.
The IWB is an amazing pedagogical tool where learners can move things around on the board, the learners who are more visually stimulated can have a well rounded pedagogical experience. You can also surf the internet during class and all learners can participate.
The IWB is almost like glorified blackboards combined with a touch screen. Which is actually quite amazing. I will definitely make use if the IWB in my classroom. For example in my History classes I will ask learners to move dates into the correct order or to I will show visuals to learners. I will also use IWB in my English classes. Learners can play language games.
The IWB will allow me as teacher to explain or demonstrate something on a whole new level incorporating writing, visuals, audios etc. at the same time. children will like the interaction and it will enrich my teaching. If one make your IWB classes interesting then learners will be motivate to learn.
IWB is a great tool to use in your classroom!
